Generally speaking, don’t get into debt for things that are not vital to your life on a long term basis. A state of the art computer might not be vital, but a car could be. Ask yourself if it is just because you want it, or is it essential.

Look at the things you buy without thinking about them. Buying coffee each day in a coffee shop and purchasing pre-packed sandwiches for lunch can cost a lot of money over a month.

What You Can Expect From an Angiogram

I have been informed that I will need to have an Angiogram. I have been told that this procedure is a safe and pretty much, painless ordeal and I have no reason to worry. However, the truth is that ther is a lot of things to worry about. They won’t want to put a camera isnide your body and into your heart for no reason at all. An Angiogram is an OPD (Out-Patient Department) procedure and the Cardiologist will open up an artery in the leg and slowly move a camera which goes into the arteries in the heart muscles. It sounds worse than it actually is, but the advantage is that you the stats of your arteries and heart at any point in time. This will finally give an answer to how detrimental of a situation I am in, that is, if I have one. The Cardiologist must be somewhat concerned since he scheduled this procedure for four days from now.

Once the day approaches, I check in at the Cardiology Center at my local hospital and get prepped to go through the Angiogram. An I.V. was put into me and I was already. Once I was put into the Angiogram Theater, a sedative that leaves me awake was given to me but they said I will feel no pain at all. I was not able to hear what was going on either. When the nurses spoke directly to me in loud voices I was able to respond though.

The benefit of the Angiogram is if there is a blockage found, the Cardiologist can normally put a metal stent of pipe in the artery to maintain my blood flow. This is a much easier procedure than if I would have had to go through Open Heart Surgery. This is what I would have had to do a few years ago. About an hour after the Angiogram began, the doctor must have lowered the amount of the sedative as I remember him telling me the status of my condition.

The not so good news is that I did have arterial calcium deposits. This was what they had noticed with the other laboratory tests that I took. The good news is that my arteries are totally smooth on the inside and are considered to be quite large. Big arteries with a small, smooth coating of calcium only made it a potential problem.

Since I am a larger person from a family of larger people for quite a few generations, the reality that my arteries are large didn’t surprise me any. I am not able to show proof about it but I have toconsider that the vitamins and supplements I have been taking for over 10 years has helped to protect me from developing a full on heart disease. The Cardiologist continues to be concerned for long-term survival since it shows a high calcium score from the blood tests.

Now I must make some life-style changes. I’ve gone from a pretty lazy type of person to one who rides an exercise bike every day for about seven miles. I continue to do this even though now the doctor has told me to take an adult aspirin each day and to change my eating style too. It’s a process I must go through and there are good days and then there are not so good days. I have become very conscious about what I eat. My LDL cholesterol is at 90 now; the Cardiologist has put me on Statins to reduce the bad cholesterol even more. There is no proof, but I seem to believe that the Statins will soon be a crucial part of living my life.

Well that is my story. Physical activity and one aspirin a day helps thin my blood, Statins to help reduce my bad cholesterol and vitamins to be taken daily just because I think they have helped me in the past. With luck on my side, I will be able to live a long life without the need to deal with the horrible effects of a serious heart disease.
